Malinga sends warning to Aussies with unplayable delivery

If Australia's T20 side weren't already wary of Lasitha Malinga, this incredible ball against the PM's XI will certainly do the job.

Sri Lanka tuned up for their three-match T20 series against Australia in style by dispatching the Prime Minister's XI in Canberra on Wednesday.

After almost a year out of cricket due to illness and injury, Malinga took four balls to find his range, knocking D'Arcy Short's middle stump out of the ground.

The ridiculous delivery hooped in at the last moment, leaving Short no hope of playing the ball as it shot between bat and pad.

"A guy like Malinga makes a huge difference," coach Graham Ford said.

"To have somebody like that just can't get better."

PM's XI captain Adam Voges was in the Perth Scorchers side devastated by Malinga's record 6-7 in 2012 while he was playing for the Melbourne Stars in the BBL.

"When he was at the top of his game he's one of the more difficult bowlers in the world to face," Voges said.

"Where he delivers the ball is obviously very different to where everyone else does.

"You're looking at the middle of the umpire's chest because that's about where it's going to come from."
