Kotoko coach Frimpong blames goalkeeper after Hearts defeat

Asante Kotoko coach Frimpong Manso says blunders from goalkeeper Felix Annan amounted to their 3-1 defeat to Hearts of Oak in Ghana's 60th anniversary first leg game at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

Three second half goals from Kwame Kizito, Paul Acquah and Patrick Razak knocked down the visitors, with Awal Mohammed scoring a consolation.

“We were undone by goalkeeping errors because I don’t think we should have lost this match to Hearts of Oak after controlling the larger part of the game,” said Manso.

“For me we played very well. The scoreline does not really worry us. If you watch the game critically, you will realise my players did well. Our keeper Felix Annan had a bad day but he has been saving us this season. That’s football for you,” he said.

He added: “But I’m not alarmed by the results because our supporters can see that we’re gradually improving in every game that we play since I took over from the previous technical handlers.

“And having said that, I will urge our fans not to feel downhearted because I’m sure we can also beat Hearts in Kumasi to overturn the scoreline and lift the trophy because it’s not over.”

Kotoko are without victory in their last five league games and will lock horns with Great Olympics on Saturday in matchday 14 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
