Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns hits ridiculous buzzer-beater to force OT vs. Grizzlies

Karl-Anthony Towns just threw it up as time expired on Monday night at FedExForum.

Thankfully, even from just a step inside the half-court line, the bank was still open.

Towns drilled a ridiculous 3-point buzzer-beater that forced overtime on Monday night in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ battle with the Memphis Grizzlies.

That bucket fended off a Grizzlies comeback, as they trailed by 11 headed into the final quarter after going scoreless for the final three minutes of the third period.

Towns’ heroics weren’t enough to push the Timberwolves to a win. Memphis outscored Minnesota 12-5 in the extra period, and held it without a field goal in the final two minutes, to take the 125-118 win.

“Some crazy plays down the stretch that forced it to overtime, that’ll really test your resolve and your spirit going into overtime with a momentum play like that, but we’re the ones that jumped out to a lead in overtime,” Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said, via Bally Sports. “I think [we] got a couple quick buckets, and then we just made the plays … Hopefully this is something that we can build off of, find consistency. There’s a lot of ways to win the game, this is an impressive one for sure.”

Ja Morant led the Grizzlies with 33 points, eight assists and six rebounds while shooting 10-of-24 from the field. Brandon Clarke added 20 points while shooting 8-of-11 off the bench, and De’Anthony Melton had 19 points.

D’Angelo Russell led Minnesota with 30 points and seven assists, and Anthony Edwards added 27 points. Towns finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds. The Timberwolves have lost five straight.

“We played better for longer tonight,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said, via Bally Sports North. “I still think we’re a good team and we have good basketball in us. I think we have good basketball in our future, so we just have to figure out a way to close and win these games that we’ve been able to create an advantage in.”
