Jurgen Klopp hails ‘spectacular’ Luis Diaz goal as Liverpool keep Premier League run going

Jurgen Klopp was delighted with Luis Diaz’s bravery for the opening goal as Liverpool eased to a 2-0 victory over Brighton.

The January signing headed the visitors in front at the Amex and in doing so was absolutely clattered by Robert Sanchez as the goalkeeper charged off his line.

VAR checked to see if there was serious foul play but opted against advising Mike Dean to look at the pitchside monitor, as Brighton avoided what could easily have been a red card.

Klopp focused on Diaz’s finish rather than that decision, which along with Mohamed Salah’s penalty sent Liverpool on their way to an eighth Premier League win in a row.

“I have no idea, I saw it only once,” Klopp said.

“He did what a striker had to do. I didn’t see it back but it was spectacular enough in the first moment.

“To get in there with his head it was really brave. A great goal.

“We had our chances, we had massive counter-attacks that we didn’t use but it’s fine. I’m really not overly critical with the boys. Consistency is the most important thing in football, but it’s also the most difficult as well.

“I think we deserved it, to win the game and that’s all I ask for. I am happy.”

Victory moved Liverpool three points behind Manchester City, who travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Klopp has repeatedly played down the pressure on his side and once again insisted there was no need for Liverpool to focus on anything other than winning games.

“It’s always the same, you expect Manchester City to win every game when you watch them play,” Klopp said.

“The only thing we can do is as win as many football games as possible. We’re ready, we don’t need to call it a title race, we just want to win games.”
