Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has been ruled out of Thursday’s Game 3 against the Brooklyn Nets due to lingering knee issues.

The 76ers star has been dealing with pain in his left knee since the All-Star break and said before the start of the series he didn’t know if he would be available for Game 1.

After being listed as doubtful for the opener, Embiid played in Games 1 and 2. He was effective in both games, averaging 22.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocks to open the series that is tied at 1-1.

Embiid missed regular season games with knee pain

Embiid was inactive for 14 of the 76ers’ final 24 regular-season games with the knee pain described on injury reports as tendinitis.

Embiid is one of the game’s dominant forces when healthy, averaging 27.5 points, 13.6 rebounds. 3.7 assists and 1.9 blocks in 64 games this season.

Injuries have plagued him throughout his career, and he has never played more than 64 games in a season. Foot and knee injuries have sidelined him for long periods of time, including a torn meniscus in his ailing left knee suffered in 2017.
