Bob the Builder is set to get the movie treatment thanks to Jennifer Lopez.

Yep, the actress and music star is set to produce a new animated film based on the classic character, which will star In the Heights' Anthony Ramos as Bob.

The movie, which is set to be written by Rosario's Felipe Vargas, will tell the story of Roberto (Bob) as he travels to Puerto Rico for a big construction job.

While there, he “takes on issues affecting the island and digs deeper into what it means to build," the synopsis adding: "Bob’s journey will celebrate the vibrant and colorful textures of the Caribbean Latin nations and their people.”

“For years, Bob the Builder’s characters have inspired young people around the world,” Ramos, who is also a producer, said, adding that there are parts inspired by his own life.

“A movie about friends working together, a celebration of a beautiful home they share, and how love can help to conquer any obstacle in your way. Can we fix it? Yes, we can!”

Mattel Films president Robbie Brenner added: “Pairing Anthony and Felipe’s genius vision for the story will capture this beloved character in a manner that audiences who grew up with Bob will recognize, and all-new audiences will enjoy."

“The show’s ability to promote positive thinking, problem-solving and empowerment with a completely original story set in Puerto Rico puts a new spin on a beloved brand,” added producer Elain Goldsmith-Thomas.

“We can’t wait for new and existing fans to connect with these amazing characters.”

The new movie comes after the success of Mattel's Barbie last year, which became the highest-grossing film of 2023. Other toy movies on the way include Daniel Kaluuya's Barney film, and Lena Dunham's take on Polly Pocket.
