Jennifer Lopez battles killer robots in action-packed trailer for Netflix sci-fi film “Atlas”

Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Lana Parrilla also star in the thriller, releasing globally on May 24.

J.Lo squares off against AI in the trailer for Atlas, Netflix's upcoming sci-fi thriller set in a futuristic world.

The film follows Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer Lopez), a data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence who's enlisted for a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. When the plans go awry, she's left stranded alone on what appears to be a distant world. There, she learns the only way to save humanity from AI is to trust it.

Transformers-like robots are shown living alongside humans in the trailer released Wednesday. The ensuing destruction suggests that some of them have gone rogue and unleashed violence against the population. The film, releasing globally on Friday, May 24, also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong.

Brief, dramatic glimpses of Liu, reportedly set to play an antagonist, and Brown are shown in the trailer, but details about their roles are still a mystery. Atlas hails from director Brad Peyton (San Andreas, Rampage) with a screenplay by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite.

Lopez, who also produced the film under her production company Nuyorican Productions, last collaborated with Netflix on her 2023 action thriller The Mother and the 2022 musical documentary Halftime. She recently released This Is Me… Now, a companion film to her new album of the same name, on Prime Video last month. It featured starry cameos from husband Ben Affleck, Jane Fonda, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Keke Palmer, Jenifer Lewis, and more.
