Kano Pillars coach, Ibrahim Musa has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of his players in their recent friendly matches.
Sai Masu Gida laboured to a 1-0 win over Kada City Stars last Wednesday before they were held to a 1-1 draw by Jigawa Golden Stars and the tactician has warned his players to step up their output in subsequent games and avoid a repeat of their recent misfiring performances.
“We were able to defeat Kada City Stars 1-0 but we were exposed against Jigawa Golden Stars who held us to a 1-1 draw,” Musa told Goal.
“We must play better than we have played especially in our last three matches. My players are finding it difficult to tighten up the defence and they have not been scoring goals as expected too. We have to work seriously on these mistakes before the league continues.
“It was appalling the type of chances we were unable to convert against Kada City while against Jigawa Golden Stars we allowed them to score first before we equalized later on in the game. It wasn’t that we didn’t create chances but we were unable to score them. We must seriously work on this.
“It is what we shall concentrate on during our training sessions this new week. We must try and get it right before we are going to play more friendly matches. I want to personally work on the defenders and the strikers to see if there will be an improvement.”
Musa confirmed that Pillars will still engage in more test games once he is satisfied with the response of his players to the adjustment he craved.
“We are not going to shut the door on friendly matches but for now we are going to concentrate on our training sessions and thereafter we will still play a couple of friendly matches against lower league teams,” he continued.
“The objective still remains to raise a formidable team that is still able to wrestle the league title from Lobi Stars and Akwa United. We know we can do it and it is the reason we want to be all fired up before the league season continues.”
