I-League: Mohun Bagan to play next two home games at their club ground

Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan will play their next two home matches on the club ground as opposed to hosting it at the famed Salt Lake Stadium.

The Mariners wrote to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) requesting for a change in venue given that the cost of hosting games at the Salt Lake Stadium has been exorbitant.

By hosting the matches at the club ground, the officials believe that they can significantly cut down on their operational cost.

Interestingly, the club has struggled to attract large number of fans to the Salt Lake Stadium for their I-League matches. The move to play their home matches at the club ground could help increase the attendances.

Bagan’s club ground has bucket seats in only two stands with the rest being covered with concrete ramps.

Meanwhile, East Bengal may also play their next two home matches at Mohun Bagan ground. Given the number of injuries suffered at the Barasat Stadium by Mohun Bagan, the Red and Gold too do not wish to believe at the said venue.

"We will also request the AIFF to host our matches at the Barasat Stadium if they give permission," Debabrata Sarkar, a senior official of the club said.
