Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks will hint at newcomer Carter Shepherd's dark secret in upcoming scenes as Goldie McQueen grows suspicious of him.
Carter, the school's new headmaster and Freya's father, struck up a friendship with John Paul shortly after his arrival in the village last month.
However, in next week's episodes, Goldie is sure that Carter has a sinister hidden motive behind this friendship with her cousin — who was the driver behind the minibus crash that left Freya with life-changing injuries — and she's determined to find out what it is.
It's not long before a horrified John Paul finally discovers that Carter is Freya's father, and he fears that he'll never be able to face the newcomer again.
Although Carter shows up at the McQueen house to tell John Paul that he forgives him for the crash, Goldie is sceptical that his nice guy persona is all that it seems.
And it appears Goldie is right to be suspicious, as Carter is spotted taking a mystery phone call in which he mentions John Paul's name shortly after leaving the house. What is Carter up to?
Previously discussing the dynamic between his character Carter and John Paul, David Ames told Digital Spy: "As you know, Carter is Freya's father and the headmaster of the school and so he is going be centrally involved in a lot of stuff coming up.
"But it's a very interesting relationship and dynamic that appears between Carter and John Paul. It's got numerous layers to it and it's going to be quite dynamic."
James Sutton, who plays John Paul, also hinted that Carter isn't to be completely trusted, telling us: "[John Paul] is just very lost and very vulnerable and he's looking for something and for someone and we just have to hope that no one take advantage of that…"
