Holders Bayern to face PSG in CL quarters

·2-min read

Defending champions Bayern Munich have been drawn to meet Mauricio Pochettino's Paris St Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals, in a rematch of last year's final.

Bayern won the 2020 decider 1-0 in Lisbon to lift the premier European trophy for a sixth time against first-time finalists PSG, who ousted Barcelona in this season's last-16 to reach the quarters.

Friday's draw also sees Real Madrid play Liverpool, the team they beat 3-1 in the 2018 final to win a record-extending 13th European title.

Runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City's quest for a maiden Champions League title will continue against German opposition again in Borussia Dortmund, after they ousted Borussia Monchengladbach in the previous round.

Porto, the conquerors of Juventus in the last round, are up against Chelsea.

To defend their title on May 29 at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Bayern will have to beat the Manchester City team led by former coach Pep Guardiola or Bundesliga rivals Dortmund in the semi-finals, which were also drawn on Friday.

In the other semi, Liverpool and Chelsea, should they win their quarters, will meet in a familiar all-Premier League semi-final match-up.

In what will be seen as a promising omen for Liverpool, the teams met in the 2005 semi-finals, with the Reds prevailing and going on to win the trophy - in Istanbul.

It is the first Champions League quarter-final line-up without either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo since 2005. No Italian team is involved for the first time since 2016.
