Hapoel Beer Sheva's Ogu sorry after penalty miss

John Ogu has expressed his disappointment after missing a penalty that nearly cost Hapoel Beer Sheva’s chances of qualifying to the next round of the Uefa Champions League.

The reigning Isreali league champions progressed to the next round of the elite European competition based on away goals after a 3-1 defeat to Ludogorets on Wednesday.

Mohammad Ghadir handed the Turner Stadium outfit a lifeline with a consolation after Wanderson’s brace and Marcelinho’s strike had given the hosts a 3-0 lead in the Ludogorets Arena.

However, Ogu had an attempt to put the encounter beyond the Georgi Dermendzhiev’s men with a penalty call in the 86th minute but couldn’t convert into goal.

And the 29-year-old midfielder took to social media to apologise to the fans.

“Not the result we wanted but glad we made it to the Uefa champions league playoffs. I'm really proud of my team efforts against a good side,” Ogu wrote on Instagram.

“ And to those I almost gave heart attack after missing that penalty, so sorry. Thanks to our travelling fans and those at home supporting us. One more step to our objective.”
