Gundogan return dominates Guardiola news conference
There was only one main focus for Pep Guardiola ahead of the visit of Ipswich Town on Saturday - the return of Ilkay Gundogan.
The Treble-winning captain has signed a one-year deal with an option for a further year and Guardiola said he was "delighted" to have him back.
Guardiola was right; when managers usually talk of the transfer window and "anything can happen", this is a leading example.
Seeing Gundogan compete still at the highest level for Barcelona last season and Germany at Euro 2024 in the summer has left Guardiola in no doubt that the midfielder can still cut it at Manchester City.
And it will be an easy adjustment. Gundogan knows the club, the manager and the majority of the players from his previous time in Manchester.
But the chances of another former City player coming back seems to be off the cards. Guardiola refused to comment on Raheem Sterling's Chelsea future.
There will be a late fitness test for Rodri, who has not featured in City's pre-season, Community Shield win or the victory at Chelsea last weekend, but is expected to undertake some training on Friday afternoon.
Savinho faces the same having picked up a knock in the win at Stamford Bridge.
