Green wins her second Greg Norman medal
Three wins in 2024 was beyond even Hannah Green‘s expectations but by setting herself apart from every other Australian golfer the major champion has duly been rewarded with a second Greg Norman medal.
Green rose to world No.5, the highest ranking of any Australian, male or female on the back of her three LPGA tour victories, the last achieved at the BMW Ladies Championship in Korea in October.
That victory ensured Green became the first Australian since Karrie Webb in 2006 to notch three wins in a single LPGA season and locked in the coveted award for a second time.
In the 10-year history of the Greg Norman medal, Green and her great mate, and Paris Olympics teammate Minjee Lee have won the award five times between them. Green won her first medal in 2019, when she captured her first major championship, but said her 2024 was even better.
“It has undoubtedly been one of the best years of my career and to cap it with a second Greg Norman Medal makes it all the more special,” Green said who is in Florida preparing for the LPGA’s season-ending event, with a record $6.1 million winner’s cheque in her sights.
“Any year in which you have a win is a good year so to have three in the one season is very satisfying – and I’d love to finish off with another one at the Australian Open next week.
“I would like to thank everyone in my team, my husband Jarryd, my family and friends for their support this year.
“I feel like I have taken a major step forward in 2024 and hope that I can finish off the year well and take that into 2025 and beyond.”
After finishing fifth at last year’s Australian Open, Green launched in to 2024 with a win in just her second event, taking out the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Thailand in March.
She then staged a successful defence of her JM Eagle LA Championship crown in April before a wire-to-wire win at the BMW Ladies Championship in Korea.
After the CME Globe event in Florida, Green will make a mad dash to Melbourne for next week’s Australian Open, in the quest for her first win in the time honoured event.
