'Good luck charm': The woman behind golf's new superstar

Ever since Brooks Koepka started dating Jena Sims, all he’s done is win.

The American cemented his status as the most dominant golfer at the majors since Tiger Woods in his pomp on Monday, even if his second US PGA Championship win was tighter than expected.

The 29-year-old's two-shot win from Dustin Johnson on Monday meant he became the first male golfer in history to hold two different majors back-to-back at the same time.

He also became the first to win his first four majors in two years - a run that has propelled him back past Johnson to the world No.1 ranking for a fourth time.

But as much as the world was captivated by Koepka, many were also wondering who the woman standing by his side was.

Jena Sims drew some unwanted headlines on Monday when Koepka appeared to reject her attempt at a pre-round good luck kiss.

The awkward moment made worldwide headlines, with Sims becoming as much of a talking point as Koepka.

So who exactly is she?

We were first introduced to Sims two years ago when Fox announcer Joe Buck called her the name of one of Koepka’s previous girlfriends.

And ever since she’s been by Koepka’s side, all he’s done is win.

“He’s very aware of his success and the timing of our relationship,” Sims joked with Golf.com on Saturday.

“I can’t take the credit for that. All I can do is make him happy.

“I’m quirky and weird, I like to make him laugh. I encourage him to be himself.”

‘I’m pretty lucky’

In America, Sims is somewhat of superstar in her own right.

In 2007 she competed in the Miss Teen USA beauty pageant, and has gone on to become an actor and model.

She’s appeared in Sharknado, Entourage and Attack of the 50-foot Cheerleader.

“I’m pretty lucky that my actual job isn’t a 9 to 5, so it really gives me flexibility to go out and watch Brooks,” she told The Loop recently.

“ I love being able to support Brooks and watch him because he’s so talented. It’s so much fun to watch him.

"He’ll say to me all the time: ‘It must be so boring walking around in the crowd watching me play.’ And I’m like, no way. I actually really enjoy it.

“I grew up around golf; my dad is a huge golfer. So I really enjoy watching him and being around there.”

With Sims by his side, Koepka became the first player since Woods (1999-2001) to win four US-based majors from six starts.

He also joined Woods (1999-2000 and 2006-2007) as the only players to win back-to-back PGA Championships since it moved to stroke play in 1958.
