Golfer laments how win 'killed' his wedding speech
Ryan Fox claimed a massive breakthrough win over the weekend, but there was a surprising downside.
The world number 85 ranked New Zealand golfer took out the World Super 6 Perth tournament, bagging a cool $258.330 payday in the process.
While it was Fox’s first win since 2016, the affable Kiwi was left to lament a ruined speech for his upcoming wedding.
Apparently, he’d planned a series of jokes around his dry spell.
“This win has actually killed one of my speech jokes,” Fox said.
“I was going to run my speech as a golf (victory) speech and say I haven’t done one in a while.
“My mates were giving me a bit of stick about that, but they can’t give me that anymore, which is quite nice.
“It’s been 10 years in the making getting married. And now I’ve got some practice kissing a trophy as well, which was nice.”

Fox came out on top against a strong field, proving too good for Spaniard Adrian Otaegui in the final round of match play.
The New Zealander defeated Jazz Janewattananond, Kristoffer Reitan and Paul Dunne in his other matches to qualify for the final.
The World Super 6, which was first held in Perth in 2017 and won by Australian Brett Rumford in its first year, has now completed an initial three-year contract.
It will remain to be seen whether the tournament is awarded a new contract.
Rising Australian golfer Min Woo Lee also impressed, despite falling in the quarter finals.
Lee cruised past Frenchman Gregory Bourdy in his first match, before getting the better of tournament favourite Thomas Pieters in the second round.
The West Australian succumbed to tournament runner-up Otaegui.
