Golfer nails incredible approach shot with back to green

Justin Thomas may have won the PGA Championship, but John Rahm stole the show with a truly amazing shot in the final round.

Rahm found himself in a tricky situation on the 18th hole on Monday, with his ball nestled just short of a water hazard.

The right-hander would have been forced to stand with his feet in the water in order to play the shot conventionally, but Rahm had other ideas.

The Spaniard stood with his back to the green and played a ridiculous reverse shot...straight onto the green!

The crowd erupted with delight at the sheer brilliance of the shot, although we have to wonder whether he would have attempted the audacious approach if he wasn't 6-over and no shot at winning.

He ended up two-putting for bogey, shooting a final round 75 to finish up 7-over.

World No.14 Thomas took another big stride down the same path as three-time major champion Jordan Spieth with a two-stroke victory at Quail Hollow in North Carolina.

So often compared to childhood friend and fellow 24-year-old Spieth, Thomas stepped from his shadow by winning back-to-back on the US PGA Tour's Hawaii swing in January, including carding a 59 at the Sony Open where he earned his fourth tour title.
