'She needs to wake up': Fired caddie blasts Lydia Ko

Lydia Ko's caddie situation is getting out of hand.

Despite being the No. 1 player in the Rolex World Rankings, Ko just fired her ninth caddie. She is 19 years old.

At this pace, she will have said "you're fired" more times than Donald Trump by the time she hits her mid-20s. The latest Ko caddie to get the boot, Gary Matthews, fired back.

"I wish her the best, but she's gone through so many caddies, she needs to wake up on caddie-player relationships," Matthews said, via Golf Digest . "Otherwise she'll just keep doing it."

Ko dismissed Jason Hamilton, who looped 10 of Ko's 14 career victories, last October. She also went through seven different caddies during her rookie season.

Matthews, who has worked for Sergio Garcia, Anthony Kim, Trevor Immelman and Camilo Villegas on the PGA Tour, believes a lack of communication could be the main reason Ko is so unsettled with her caddie situation.

"In all honesty, there is no communication in the whole camp. You never know anything or are told anything," said Matthews. "The agent (Michael Yim of IMG) called me on the Monday after Palm Springs and said, 'She needed a change, we’re going with somebody else, but you can caddie in Hawaii.'

"I'm like well, never in 19 years have I been fired, and I'm still working for the person. What was so strange for me, we worked unbelievably well in Hawaii, the communication and everything was just phenomenal."

Ko is scheduled to play in next week's Volunteers of America Texas Shootout. She is still looking for another new caddie.
