Golfers left hungry for more as sprinkler eats consecutive shots

Rickie Fowler won the Honda Classic and Tyrrell Hatton finished tied for fourth, but it was no thanks to Palm Beach Gardens.

The Florida course conspired against the two golfers on the fourth hole of the fourth round on Sunday (Monday AEDT).

Fowler held a solid lead after three, shooting 66, 66, 65, while Hatton went 68, 67, 66 to be in contention.

After a bogey on the first hole, Hatton was left frustrated to start the fourth.

He hit his second shot into the bunker and his chip shot out of it rolled right over the green, leaving him smacking his club against the hill.

But while he dropped his chin and walked away, something remarkable happened: his ball fell into a sprinkler, stopping it from rolling even further away from the green.

Fowler, though, was already at the bottom of the hill and attempted a putt to get up towards the hole.

But he misread the climb and his ball was only ever destined for one place.

Yep, the sprinkler hole.

Both players received a free drop, shifting their balls five inches from the sprinkler, but bogeys were inevitable.
