Jarrod Lyle lights up Australian PGA with hole-in-one

Aussie golfer Jarrod Lyle has nailed a brilliant hole-in-one during the opening round of the Australian PGA Championship.

The 35-year-old aced the par-3 5th hole at Royal Pines on Thursday.

"It wasn't the perfect shot but it got there", an ecstatic Lyle said afterwards.

In 2015 Lyle was awarded the PGA Tour Courage Award winner at the Greg Norman medal night.

He returned to the Tour in 2014 after spending two years battling his second bout of acute myeloid leukaemia and is currently playing on the tour with a medical extension.

"It has taken a lot of fighting for me to get back to the PGA TOUR but it has been well worth it," Lyle said.

"For me to get back after the things I have dealt with shows people in similar situations there is hope for them, and if they stay positive and fight for every day then they can succeed in life.

"To be back playing with all the guys again and saying thank you was very important to me."

Queenslander Andrew Dodt has claimed a two-shot clubhouse lead with a seven-under-par 65 on the opening morning of the Australian PGA.
