Paige Spiranac says she’s received death threats after angering the ‘pushcart Mafia’ of golf.

Spiranac caused controversy on the latest episode of her podcast ‘Playing A Round’ with disparaging remarks about golfers who use pushcarts rather than carry their bags.

The former pro golfer-turned social media star said any male golfer who uses a cart is a “bitch”.

“I know that pushcarts are actually good, like if you have back issues,” she said.

“But if you’re mad at me for calling you a bitch, that’s what makes you a bitch - being that upset about a pushcart.

“The only guys who are getting upset about me calling them a bitch are the bitches who use the pushcarts.

“This guy sent me a DM and he was said ‘how dare you call me a bitch, I only have one good leg and it’s better than playing on nothing’.”

Spiranac continued to attack those offended by her comments.

“I am so heated about it because it’s so funny how guys are so offended by a woman calling them a bitch but they have no problem using that term towards women,” she added.

“As soon as you call a guy a bitch it’s like the world’s ending, it’s such a shot to the male ego.”

While a lot of the back-and-forth between Spiranac and fans has been rather light-hearted, she took to Twitter on Thursday to reveal how strongly some felt about her remarks.

“I just got a death threat over a pushcart. Pushcart mafia rolls deep. Literally,” she tweeted.

After some more backlash from fans, Spiranac tried to pass her comments off as a joke.

“It was a joke. It would be a very boring podcast if we never had strong opinions on anything,” she replied to one fan.

Paige Spiaranc’s podcast becomes huge hit

Spiranac’s podcast has become a hit among fans without any golf to watch during the coronavirus crisis.

She previously revealed a horrifying ordeal in which an explicit photo of her was shared online, as well as taking aim at the ‘elitist’ male culture in golf.

She also recently opened up about her many failed attempts to find love, saying men would ‘take advantage’ of her for golf tips.

“I would always open up a conversation with, ‘Hey I play golf’ and anything along those lines and I thought that it would work,” Spiranac said.

“Unfortunately, guys were using me for golf lessons, golf equipment and golf balls.

“(They’d say) ‘So Paige, let’s go out on a golf date. I’ll take you to this driving range and we can just hit golf balls’ and I’d be like, ‘Yeah, that sounds awesome’.

“It would turn into an hour lesson of me just helping the guy become a better golfer.

“That happened all the time, since I was desperate and I wanted guys to like me.”

The 27-year-old has taken some time away from professional golf to focus on a media career and her anti-bullying charity work.

She is an ambassador for Cybersmile - educating young people about the dangers of cyber-bullying.
