Goalkeeper own goal gives Wolves EPL win

Illan Meslier's freak own goal has given Wolves a 1-0 win over Leeds in a hard-fought and entertaining Premier League clash at Molineux.

The goalkeeper unknowingly turned the ball into his own net after Adama Traore's second-half drive came back off the crossbar.

Mateusz Klich hit a post and Patrick Bamford had a goal ruled out for offside while Wolves keeper Rui Patricio twice denied Liam Cooper and smartly saved from Helder Costa in stoppage time.

Wolves recorded back-to-back victories for just the second time this season to go above Leeds into 11th and leave the visitors still searching for their 200th Premier League win.

Both sides played their part in an enjoyable game from the start, with defeat harsh on Leeds.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo admitted his side enjoyed some good fortune with the goal.

"Players like Adama, when he starts running, are really dangerous. It was a beautiful strike but of course there was luck in the moment.

"The goalkeeper (Meslier) made a fantastic save in the first half. Both keepers were active in the game, that showed the intensity.

"The approach we've had during the tough moments, always believing and committing...you can never say anything about the attitude of the players.

"Sometimes things don't work out...but we chase the higher standards we have. Let's keep chasing and working hard."

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa felt they were unlucky to lose with the opportunities they created.

"There were very few moments of the game we didn't dominate," Bielsa said. "The offensive game we created was sufficient enough to score at least one goal.

"In a game with small margins I had the feeling we were the superior side. We had 10 chances in the game."
