Late goal lifts Betis toward European spot

Borja Iglesias has scored a 79th-minute winner for Real Betis in their 1-0 La Liga home win over lowly Osasuna 1-0 to move closer to the European qualification spots.

A sixth win in seven matches lifted Betis to seventh place.

Manuel Pellegrini's team are unbeaten in eight consecutive matches in all competitions.

Iglesias fired home the game's only goal, his second league strike this season, after a through ball by Cristian Tello.

He should have got a second in stoppage-time when Osasuna keeper Sergio Herrera came charging out of his area completely missing his kick.

The error allowed the ball to run to Iglesias but he shot wide of the empty goal from distance.

Osasuna had a few good chances but were denied by Betis goalkeeper Joel Robles.

"We suffered today and our keeper made three great saves. But we are taking our chances up front and getting wins," Iglesias said.

The result left Osasuna in 17th place, just above the relegation zone.
