The Glossier Story Is Coming to Your TV

It's set to follow Emily Weiss's journey from The Hills to the shelves at Sephora.

Prime Video is about to get a dose of millennial pink. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streamer came out on top to win a bidding war for the rights to Marisa Meltzer’s book, Glossy: Ambition, Beauty, and the Inside Story of Emily Weiss’s Glossier. The NYT bestseller chronicles the rise of Glossier and its founder, Emily Weiss, who many fans remember as the superstar intern opposite Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port on MTV's "reality" show, The Hills. Weiss is credited with being one of the OG girlbosses, taking her brand from a blog to a small, direct-to-consumer beauty line to a global player in the cosmetics and skin care market, with storefronts in the United States and the U.K. and, more recently, being stocked at Sephora locations.

The book's logline goes like this:

“At the center of the story lies Emily Weiss, the elusive former Teen Vogue ‘superintern’ on the reality show The Hills turned Into the Gloss beauty blogger who had the vision, guts, and searing ambition needed to launch Glossier. She cannily turned every experience, every meeting into an opportunity to fuel her own personal success. Together with her expensive signature style and singular vision for the future of consumerism, she could not be stopped. The New York Times Book Review called Meltzer’s book “a compulsively readable narrative of beauty, business, privilege, and mogul-dom" and fans of the brand — and even people who aren't — probably know the line's star products, Balm Dotcom and Boy Brow. THR adds that at one point, the brand was valued at $1.2 billion in 2019 and the book set out to figure out the secret sauce to its success, positing that it had to be more than just the magnetic allure of Weiss, especially if Meltzer called her out as "a girl from suburban Connecticut with no real job experience."

Lindsey Anderson Beer and her company, LAB Brew, are set to produce the series for Prime Video. Her résumé includes Masters of the UniverseThe Kingkiller Chronicles, and Transformers: The Last Knight, so fans of Glossier and Weiss's singular style of polished ease can rest easy knowing the story is in good (likely very manicured) hands.
