Giroud expecting Arsenal stay amid summer exit rumours

Olivier Giroud continues to fend off exit rumours at Arsenal, with the striker not expecting to move on this summer.

The France international has seen his future called into question for some time.

Sanchez 18/1 to win PL Golden Boot

He did not see as many starts as he would have liked in 2016-17, with Alexis Sanchez often favoured in a central role by Arsene Wenger.

The Chilean remains at the club, despite intense transfer speculation of his own, while around £50 million has been spent on Giroud’s countryman, Alexandre Lacazette.

Everton are among those reported to be keen on offering the 30-year-old frontman the minutes he craves, but little attention is being paid to the gossip at present.

Wenger: Arsenal will sell this summer

Giroud told SFR Sport when quizzed on his future: "I am an Arsenal player.

“I have a two-year contract, at least."

Giroud committed to fresh terms with the Gunners in January, alongside Laurent Koscielny and Francis Coquelin.

He ended the 2016-17 campaign with 16 goals in 39 appearances and with another FA Cup winners’ medal to his name.

Merson's savage Arsenal prediction

More silverware was secured on Sunday, with Giroud netting the winning penalty in a Community Shield shoot-out victory over Chelsea.

He will now be hoping to start the new Premier League season positively, with Arsenal’s campaign due to get underway against Leicester on Friday, while edging himself towards his target of reaching 100 goals for the club – as he stands just two efforts short of that mark at present.
