German luger chips a tooth biting his medal

(Yahoo! Sports) - Olympic medalists routinely bite their medals for pictures, but German luger David Moeller took the photographer's directions a bit too literally. He chipped his tooth chomping down on the silver medal he won in singles luge Sunday, causing an emergency visit to the dentist.

"The photographers wanted us to bite into our medals at the presentation ceremony and a corner of my front tooth broke off," admitted Moeller. "It wasn't too bad and it didn't hurt but it is annoying when you can't smile as you normally do."

Looking at the picture, it's no wonder that he lost part of his tooth. Look at the pressure he is putting on that poor medal!

A warning to all future Olympic medalists: Those medals are some of the heaviest medals in Olympic history. Despite appearance to the contrary, they are not gelt and they aren't likely to taste very good. When it comes time to bite yours, take it easy, or you may be calling Moeller for the name of his dentist.
