'Game of death': Horrifying new trend sweeps country

Reckless teens have been captured waiting on a railway bridge for a train to approach before jumping in the river below as part of a dangerous new challenge sweeping across Colombia.

The shocking video was filmed on a bridge in Magdalena on November 17.

The incident has been highlighted by Northern Railways of Colombia (Fenoco) after train drivers encountered numerous teenagers on the tracks in recent weeks.

According to the newspaper El Tiempo, the so-called ‘Game of Death’ challenge has spread to other parts of the country and train drivers are encountering youngsters risking their lives all the time.

The teens either lie on the tracks until a train approaches and passes over them, or they stand at the sides and jump clear at the last moment, according to local media.

Fenoco president Andres Soto said the trend is growing in the Colombian region despite the best efforts of the local authorities.

“We have been working with the police and school heads to make people aware of this reckless behaviour,” Soto said.

“Sadly, teens in these towns insist on risking their lives and they could cause a tragedy soon.”

He also called on families to make youngsters aware of the dangers of the sick challenge.

There have been no reports of killed or injured teens so far.
