Froome secures historic Giro d'Italia win

British cyclist Chris Froome has become just the third rider in history to hold all three Grand Tour titles simultaneously by completing a maiden victory in the Giro d'Italia.

The 118km final stage was neutralised by the race jury after three of a scheduled 11 laps of Rome due to the poor condition of the streets in the Italian capital.

Team Sky rider Froome appeared to be barely in contention a matter of days ago but moved into the lead on Friday, when he made an audacious solo charge from 80km out on the mountainous stage from Venaria Reale to Bardonecchia.
