Freo player in police probe after pre-season bikie dust-up

Fremantle’s Harley Bennell has found himself in the middle of a broad WA Police investigation after being involved in a confrontation with a member of a bike gang while leaving a pre-season game in Mandurah.

The Age is reporting Bennell was walking back to the crowd from the bathrooms at the Mandurah ground when he was accosted by several men.

According to the report, one of those men was a member of the Coffin Cheaters motorcycle gang, and is known to police.

A security guard offered to walk Bennell to his car after the incident became physical.

The scuffle is now part of a larger investigation by the Western Australia Organised Crime Squad, the Age reported.

Bennell is not believed to have done anything wrong in the incident.

In a statement, Fremantle said they were “unaware of any investigation into Harley Bennell”.

Despite the injured Bennell having committed no wrongdoing, the news couldn’t come at a worse time for the Dockers.

Head coach Ross Lyon has been forced to defend star key forward signing Jesse Hogan, after it was revealed he was unfit to train after drinking with friends on the weekend.

The club said Hogan has been dealing with “clinical anxiety”.
