Formula One fans arrested over alleged joyride at Australian Grand Prix

They were track-side for the fast cars, but some grand prix fans found themselves in trouble with police over their use of a golf buggy.

As thousands of racegoers descended on Albert Park for the Australian Grand Prix over the weekend, police were kept busy arresting and interviewing four people in relation to the unauthorised use of the motorised cart.

The three men and one woman, including a British man, were released pending summons.

The buggies are usually used at the grand prix to chauffeur VIP guests and celebrities to and from corporate boxes and marquees.

Superintendent Tony Silva said that for an event that attracts such a large number of people, police were generally pleased with crowd behaviour.

“We were disappointed that a small number of people chose to engage in criminal behaviour,” he said on Monday.

“A highly visible police presence meant that police were able to swiftly deal with the small number of incidents which occurred at the grand prix.”
