Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says he is targeting a ‘new project’ in football management, amid speculation linking him with the Arsenal job.

The Argentinian was sacked from his role as Spurs boss last month and replaced by Jose Mourinho, bringing to an end a five-year stint in charge.

The following week Unai Emery was fired from the Arsenal hotseat, and the Gunners are yet to appoint a new permanent manager, with Freddie Ljungberg currently in charge on an interim basis.

The prospect of Pochettino crossing the north London divide has been touted in the days since Emery’s departure, and while remaining coy on the idea, Pochettino did at least confirm that he would be returning to London after a short break in his homeland.

“It's important to have a moment of calm to lower the decibels and find the energy to take on a new project, and we'll see where that is,” he told TyC Sports.

“I'll return to London next week.”
