Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil fires surprise dig at 'bottle job' Tottenham for breaking unwanted record
Mesut Ozil has taken aim at Tottenham after Ange Postecoglou's side broke an unwanted record.
The 35-year-old is now retired from football, hanging up his boots earlier this year after a brief stint with Istanbul Basaksehir to bring an end to a career that had drifted after an acrimonious exit from Arsenal.
Ozil was a hugely popular figure in north London after arriving from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 and went on to become a key players for the Gunners, earning himself a big-money contract as he committed his future to the club in 2018.
However, Ozil fell out of favour under Unai Emery and was exiled under Mikel Arteta, who had been a team-mate of the German at the Emirates Stadium during his playing days. Ozil's contract was terminated to allow him to join Fenerbahce six months before his deal was due to end.
Despite a fairly ugly end to his time at Arsenal, Ozil is evidently still keeping an eye on matters in north London, taking the opportunity to mock Tottenham's poor recent run of form.
Who else should be able to break that record? 😬 Bottle Job FC is back 🫡 https://t.co/AX6q18lUHm

Spurs were beaten by West Ham on Thursday night, making them the first side in Premier League history to take the lead in five consecutive matches and fail to win any of them, while no other team has previously lost three home games on the bounce despite scoring first.
Tottenham opened the scoring in defeats against Chelsea, Wolves and Aston Villa, while Heung-min Son put them in front at the Etihad Stadium before Manchester City came from behind to earn a point.
Postecoglou's side were dominant in the first-half against West Ham, leading at the break through Cristian Romero's header, but goals from Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse saw the visitors leave with all three points in the London derby.
Responding to a tweet about Spurs' record-breaking run, Ozil posted: "Who else should be able to break that record? Bottle Job FC is back."
