Manchester City to tour Australia this year: report

Yahoo!7 March 28, 2014, 12:05 pm

English Premier League giants Manchester City are reportedly set to play matches against two A-League clubs in Australia this May.

News Ltd is reporting the Sky Blues will face Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium before taking on Melbourne Heart at Etihad Stadium.

However, City has denied that a deal has been done.

"There is always significant speculation surrounding Manchester City Football Club's out of season itinerary," a statement said.

"However, with the exception of our July trip to the USA for the Guinness International Cup and fixture against MLS winners Sporting Kansas City, there has been no decision made regarding location, dates or opponents for any other off-season activity. Any commentary to the contrary is completely without foundation."

A tour by one of the world's biggest clubs would be a huge fillip for the game in Australia, even though City's 2014 World Cup stars would miss the tour due to FIFA regulations.

City is due to play their final Premier League game on May 12, which means the matches in Australia would come a matter of days after the end of the season.

City currently sit third on the EPL ladder, three points behind leaders Chelsea with two games in hand.

A trip to Australia would signal a further strengthening of ties between the Sky Blues and the Heart. City's owners purchased the A-League club for a $11.25 million takeover fee in January.

Firstly Ln - Why ? I don't mean why is the game silly, I mean if you think its silly why bother commenting ? Ah of course we've noticed you. You poor sad little thing you. I guess City will come down under and see how their new little club Melbourne Hearts are doing. It'll be great for their lads and spectators to meet some good soccer players and they are. I am a Man U man ( for always ) and they done us twice. Mind you if we spent as much as them on a team then we'd expect to go well too and they haven't won the EPL this year just yet.
