Del Piero to re-sign with Sydney FC: reports

Sydney FC are set to get an additional boost in the run-in to the A-League finals, with Alessandro Del Piero poised to re-sign with the club.

The Italian maestro, who has scored nine goals for Sky Blues, has reportedly agreed to a one-year extension on his current deal.

It is believed that clarification on the way Del Piero would be marketed in Australia held up negotiations.

Fairfax report the deal could be signed as soon as tomorrow.

Sydney have negotiated some minor tweaks to Del Piero's contract which give the club more freedom to promote the striker in Australia.

"It's not so much that the club wants to get the brand, the image and complicate all that, I believe it's just a little bit of tweaking about how to conduct ourselves with him in other marketing type activities, attending events or things like that," a source told Fairfax.

"You can imagine that when he signed up, there was a lot to go through and when you travel a year down the track, or not even a year, the practicalities come into play and it's a matter of ensuring those things are understood and clarified."

Sydney currently sit fifth on the ladder after a late-season surge that has propelled them into finals contention.

The Sky Blues play Melbourne Heart on Saturday in a crunch match that could have a huge impact on both teams' seasons.
