Frank Farina named new Sydney FC coach

Former Socceroos manager Frank Farina has been named Sydney FC’s new coach.

Farina has agreed to terms on a contract with the Sky Blues to take reins of the team until the end of the year.

Farina’s last coaching role in Australia ended in 2009 when he was dumped by Queensland Roar (now Brisbane Roar) in the wake of a drink driving scandal.

After being replaced by Ange Postecoglou, who would go on to lead Brisbane to back-to-back A-League championships, Farina took up a coaching opportunity in Papua New Guinea, where he has resided ever since.

The Sky Blues have been on the hunt for a new coach since Ian Crook’s shock resignation on November 11, where he cited the stresses of managing the glamour club as a major reason for leaving the role.

Sydney FC will play Melbourne Heart at Allianz Stadium this Sunday and it is understood Farina will be in attendance.

Extremely disappointed, Farina is not who I would have chosen and I agree with Chris, Miron Bleiberg would have been a better choice

Disappointing... as a sky blues fan, but at least he knows the local league and can jump straight into the role.
