Muslim footballer causes sensation after beer shower

Footage of Muslim footballer Frank Ribéry being chased by teammates before being doused in beer has gone viral and sparked outrage from fans.

During on-field celebrations following Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over Augsburg to secure the Bundesliga title, the team began to dump beer on one another indiscriminately.

Ribéry, 30, tried to evade teammates chasing him around the pitch, until he was cornered by Jerome Boateng and Luiz Gustavo who splashed a large glass of beer over the Frenchman’s head.

Alcohol is forbidden by the Muslim religion, of which Ribéry is a devout follower having converted to marry his wife, Wahiba, with whom he has two children.

Even so, Ribéry did not appear unhappy about the situation at the time.

However fans blew up online, criticising the behaviour of Gustavo, Boateng and other Bayern Munich players.

On social media, one fan posted a picture of Ribéry being soaked with the caption: 'I won't talk to Boateng again, he knows that I'm Muslim. I'm p***** off.’

Ribéry has remained silent on the incident.

The fiery winger has had a love/hate relationship with his teammates at the Bundesliga super club, having once reportedly gotten into a fist fight with Dutch international Arjen Robben.
