I'm yet to receive an offer from Besiktas, says SuperSport United winger Aubrey Modiba

SuperSport United winger Aubrey Modiba has quashed reports linking him with a move to Turkish giants Besiktas.

The 22-year-old is currently Matsatsantsa’s top scorer this season with five goals and has been making a name for himself amongst a side filled with many established internationals. This has seen recent reports emerge during the January transfer window, linking Modiba with a move away from the club, something which if it were to happen would surely cripple SuperSport even further following the departure of star striker Jeremy Brockie to Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, in an exclusive interview with Goal, Modiba has denied any such rumours that he will be heading to Europe during the current window, stating that there is nothing in the works.

“Actually, I’ve just heard rumours, nothing solid. There is nothing,” Modiba told Goal.

Meanwhile, Modiba who was in scintillating form at the beginning of the season, has slightly gone off the boil of recent times as the goals have not been so forthcoming, and he admits that it has been down to a lack of composure in the final third.   

“Nothing has changed, I think the confidence was growing (during his free scoring period),” he said.

“I think we need to be more composed and relaxed in the final third. Because I’ve had chances which I should have buried against Maritzburg (United), Arrows, also against Polokwane City. So, nothing has changed. I think it’s a matter of converting chances that I get,” he explained.

But Modiba does admit that the club’s struggles of late has affected his confidence somewhat. SuperSport have only won five league games out of 17 and currently sit in 11th place on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) table.

“Obviously, when the team is not doing well, you tend to be down a bit I think,” he admitted.

“But the coach has motivated us and is pushing us to not dwell on that and focus on the next game even though the team is not doing well and you used to win five games in a row and like now you lose five games in a row," he explained.

“So, it’s an unusual thing for us as players as well. But well our heads up, keep on pushing and grind for those results,” he concluded.
