Mathare United signing Mike Simiyu is eyeing silverware with the club this season.

Simiyu penned a one and a half year contract to join the ‘Slum Boys’ from Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia.

The 24 year-old becomes the sixth signing of the transfer window after Gilbert Osonga, Job Ochieng’, Francis Omondi, Klinsman Omulanga and Clifford Alwanga.

Having endured an underwhelming campaign in 2017 at Gor Mahia where his contributions were restricted to bit part roles, the diminutive left back is keen on reviving his career under coach Francis Kimanzi.

“I am honoured to be here. This is a team that has a lot of young players and the best coaching staff in the country. I was overwhelmed when I received the call from the coach (Kimanzi) to join the team. It is an opportunity that I could not pass,” Simiyu told the club’s official website.

“This is another chance to show case my talent. Hopefully this time it’s going to be more promising than last year.

“I want to play as many matches as possible but it does not stop at that. I want to help my team achieve something. It would be nice if we win at least a trophy,” declared a buoyant Simiyu.

For a place in the first team, Simiyu will have to wade off competition from David ‘Messi’ Owino, who was outstanding in 2017.
