Ange Postecoglou quits as Socceroos coach

The coaching future of Ange Postecoglou has finally been confirmed after weeks of speculation.

The 52-year-old has announced he will not be taking the Socceroos to the Football World Cup in Russia 2018.

The FFA will now begin the search for a new head coach.

His Socceroos future was thrown into serious question after a newspaper report was published following the Socceroos' World Cup qualification match against Syria on October 10.

The Herald Sun report stated Postecoglou would quit the Socceroos even if Australia qualified for the World Cup.

The Socceroos coach would not confirm or deny those reports despite intense media speculation in the following month.

Postecoglou had hinted at grievances within his role in the lead-up to his announcement, telling ABC he 'fluctuated' in his thinking on his coaching future.

"There's ... a whole range of reasons, some are fairly personal, some are private, some are just me as a person, and some are professional, that all need to be put into place," he said.

"What's going to be good for the team is also a consideration."

More to come.
