West Ham star's incredible act after gruesome injury

West Ham star Marko Arnautovic screamed at new manager David Moyes not to take him off despite suffering a horrific injury against Watford.

The under-fire Hammers began life under their new manager with a 2-0 loss to Watford to remain in the bottom three.

Making matters worse for the east London club was a gruesome injury to record signing Arnautovic in the second half.

Arnautovic was forced off in the final 20 minutes of the match after landing awkwardly under close attention from two Watford players.

The Austrian tried to use his hand to brace his fall but it twisted back in an unnatural way and left the Hammers man writhing in agony on the ground.

Despite requiring the attention of paramedics who administered oxygen and eventually stretchered him off, Arnautovic was said to have pleaded with Moyes not to take him off.

According to Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves, Arnautovic yelled at Moyes "don't change me, don't change me," in an incredible but fruitless display of bravery.

On the evidence of West Ham's lacklustre showing on his debut, Moyes has much work to do to lead his side away from the relegation zone.

"I always thought this was a big job. Some big players with big reputations disappointed me a lot," Moyes said.

"I thought they would show me more. They need to show me why they have got that reputation.

"I don't enjoy the performance and I expected us to do better."

The win takes Watford into eighth - just five points shy of the top four - while West Ham are 18th ahead of Friday's clash with Leicester City as Moyes prepares to make his home bow.

Goals to Will Hughes and Richarlison sealed the win for the Hornets, who travel to Newcastle next up in the league.
