Watch: Former United star Evra sent off for kicking own fan in the head

Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra has been red carded BEFORE his Europa League clash for kicking his OWN fan in the head.

Yes, you read that right, HIS OWN FAN.

Evra’s Marseille had travelled to Portugal for the clash against Vitoria de Guimaraes and having just finished the warm up he became involved in a heated exchange with the away fans behind the goals.

Crazy scenes ensued.

Reports out of Portugal claim a number of insults were exchanged and that Evra had been the subject of said insults and singing from the fans.

As the team went back to the dressing rooms a number of the fans had made their way out of the stands and down to the goal line where members of the Marseille team were speaking to them.

* RESPONSIBILITY: Luongo relishing QPR captaincy role

The below video shows the moments before the incident when Evra jumped the barriers behind the goal to confront fans who came to meet him.

He was dragged away by teammates and put back behind the barriers on the field.

But Evra then seemingly snapped again and darted around the rest of his players and planted a flying high kick to the head of one of the fans.

Fans reacted furiously and Evra’s teammates had to escort him off the field.

The referee gave him a red card and although Evra was to start on the end it meant his team had only six substitutes to play with.

It is the first time any player has ever been sent off before the match in the Europa League

The incident recalls the infamous Kung Fu kick from Eric Cantona.

In 1995 the enigmatic Manchester United striker with the short fuse did not like what he heard from Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons just moments after he had been sent off.

He went wild and launched himself over the fence, studs up with an incident that shocked the football world.
