Mourinho helping Man Utd to emerge from 'dark tunnel', says Park
Jose Mourinho has Manchester United emerging from a post-Sir Alex Ferguson “dark tunnel”, says Park Ji-sung.
Having seen an iconic coach slip into retirement back in 2013, the Red Devils have endured a humbling period of rebuilding.
David Moyes and Louis van Gaal failed to achieve the required results, with United eventually deciding to turn to Mourinho in 2016.
He led United to three trophies during his debut campaign and now has them forcing their way back into Premier League title contention, with Park of the opinion that a reincarnation is almost complete.
The former Red Devils midfielder told CNN Sport : "We're almost through that dark tunnel.
"After Sir Alex Ferguson it's been a difficult time for Man United, but actually many people know that after Sir Alex Ferguson it would be difficult for Man United.
“Now you can see this season the performance is great. Hopefully it will be the same as under Sir Alex Ferguson."
Park added on Mourinho’s influence in turning the tide at Old Trafford: "He knows more about Man United now.
"His second season is always good. In his first season, he knows what the club wanted. He found some things, brought in some players who he wanted and now it looks strong."
Mourinho has overseen an unbeaten start to the 2017-18 campaign, with United progressing positively in the Premier League, Carabao Cup and Champions League.
They have dropped just two points in the English top-flight so far and sit joint-top with arch-rivals Manchester City.
Park expects the chasing pack to close in at some point, but has called on United to remain focused on themselves and ignore the exploits of others as they seek to reassert domestic dominance.
The ex-South Korea international said: "I know in this moment it's two clubs that really fight each other, but the season's long and I know Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all compete during the season.
"Always the Premier League has several clubs fighting for the title.
"At the moment, it looks like two clubs. We need to show our quality and don't think about other clubs, like Man City.
"The season's long, just focus on what they [United] have done because they've done so well and if we can continue with that then I think we can win the title again."
United will get the opportunity to put down another important title marker on Saturday when they travel to Anfield to take on out-of-sorts Liverpool .
They will make that journey having to contend with an ever-lengthening injury list, though, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick all missing from their midfield ranks.
