Matildas condemn Brazil over disrespectful snub

Brazil aren’t used to losing much in football but this display was not a good look despite the heartache.

After the final whistle of the Matilda’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Brazil, in Newcastle, their third straight over the footballing powerhouse, the Aussies were understandably euphoric.

Australia’s superstar Sam Kerr, who scored twice in another dominant and world class display, went to shake hands with the opposition.

But Brazil’s Rafaella was having none of it.

Whether angry at throwing away an early lead, or sick of Australia’s recent dominance over them or unable to come face to face with their chief tormentor of late Rafaella refused to shake Kerr’s hand.

It was a fairly ugly display and Kerr looked rather surprised and shocked by it all until another teammate jumped on her in celebration and the worries fell away.

RESULT: Matildas beat Brazil in five-goal thriller

Matildas teammate Alanna Kennedy saw the incident as well and when she tried to shake Rafaella’s hand, and was also refused without a glance, she made a point of reaching out and grabbing the hand.

"Not shaking hands, it's not an Australian thing but I'm not really going to comment on it because it's not something I think is very ... I don't really like it, but whatever," Kerr said afterwards.

"It was heated. I don't know how it started. I just saw Caitlin fall to the ground, but I guess that's what happens when you get under people's skin, not only in the game but the last three matches.

"It was disappointing to see. We think of them as a very highly respectable team and I don't think we got the respect we deserved tonight after the last three performances."

Not a lot of love left on the field but it was another exhilarating performance from the Matildas who continue their rise up the world rankings.

Kerr scored a brilliant brace but her celebration was arguably better than either goal.
