Nikola Mileusnic starred for Adelaide as the Reds marched into the FFA Cup semis with a 3-0 win over Heidelberg United on Wednesday night, but it was Matmour who nearly stole the show.

The Algerian international came perilously close to making it 4-0 when he unleashed an audacious 'rabona' attempt on goal in the second half.

Instead of using his left foot for the shot, Makmour decided to wrap with right around behind his left and toe-poke the ball towards goal.

The incredible piece of skill resulted in the ball hitting the cross-bar and bouncing away, denyng Matmour what would have easily been one of the best goals of 2017.

The 32-year-old has spent most of his career in Germany and is a versatile attacker who can play anywhere in the front half.

Matmour, capped 30 times for Algeria, joins United after stints with Kuwaiti side Al-Arabi, England's Huddersfield Town and 1860 Munich.

Elsewhere, Melbourne City's reign as FFA Cup holders ended in lacklustre fashion as Sydney FC eased to a 2-0 victory at Leichhardt Oval.
