GOtv Shield: Bandari reach Cup quarters for third time

A last minute penalty by Noah Abich was enough to give Bandari FC a third consecutive GOtv Shield quarter-final appearance.

The former Mathare United and Sofapaka defender slotted from the spot at the stroke of full time to help Bandari beat a stubborn Nakumatt FC 3-2 in Mombasa on Saturday. David Naftali handled the ball inside the box from a Jacob Keli cross.

Abich took the honours to slot home the winner and hand Bandari a third straight win against Nakumatt FC in the same competition. The Dockers were the first to score through Anthony Wambani, who converted Abich's free-kick. The Paul Nkata led side doubled their advantage in the 25th minute through defender Hassan Abdallah.

However, the shoppers halved the scores in the 28th minute after former AFC Leopards and Thika United striker Kepha Aswani hit the back of the net from a dangerous counter attack that Bandari failed to stop.

Boniface Akenga converted Robert Omunuk's cross to tie things up but the Dockers continued to push for a winner and were rewarded in the stoppages with a penalty that Abich wasted no opportunity to give his side the win and a ticket to the quarters.

At Mumias Complex, Kakamega Homeboyz were sent packing after falling 5-4 on post match penalties to NSL side Vihiga United. The teams tied 1-1 in regular time. Elsewhere, Sony Sugar needed a Samuel Olare late strike to eliminate Nzoia Sugar.

Tusker, Wazito and Eldoret Youth are the other teams in the last eight. The two remaining slots will be complete after Kariobangi Sharks play Sofapaka on Sunday and AFC Leopards take on Bidco United on Wednesday.
