Keet: Wits will target the Caf Champions League and Telkom Knockout Cup next season

Keet: Wits will target the Caf Champions League and Telkom Knockout Cup next season

Bidvest Wits enjoyed a spectacular Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign as they claimed a domestic double, clinching their maiden domestic league title as well as the MTN 8 trophy.

The Students’ success coincided with Darren Keet’s return to South African football following a successful stint abroad. However, the 27-year-old’s return was surprising and was met with much criticism as fans questioned his ambition. But Keet has defended his decision and revealed that Wits' ambition is what attracted him.

“People will always ask questions but at the end of the day Wits were ambitious and I’ve also got my own ambitions. It worked well together. We both wanted to win trophies and we also wanted to achieve as much as we could. The season shows that we were quite successful,” Keet told The Saturday Star.

Meanwhile, after winning the league, Keet has now set his sights on winning the only domestic trophy which has eluded him, the Telkom Knockout Cup. Furthermore, the South African international is also hopeful that Wits can rewrite history and challenge for Caf Champions League honours.

“The Telkom Knockout is one trophy that is missing in my cabinet. I’ve won all the cups that are on offer in South African football besides it,” he said.

“We always go for all the trophies. I always say if you are not going to go for everything you might as well not go to training. We want to win as much as we can this coming season. We want to do well in all fronts.

“At the moment I’m only left with the Telkom and Caf Champions League and we will be going out for those,” Keet concluded.
