Wits' midfield is the strongest in the country, we don't need Teko, says Ferreira

Mamelodi Sundowns recently announced their decision to release Teko Modise after spending more than six years at the club.

While Modise remains mum on his future, speculation continues to grow regarding his next big move with the likes of Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates being bandied about.

However, one club that Modise will definitely not be joining is Bidvest Wits. Although, Wits CEO Jose Ferreira confirmed that he was approached by the 34-year-old’s representatives, he has dispelled talk that the Students were interested in signing the former Bafana Bafana star.

Ferreira is adamant that Wits already have enough quality within their ranks following the capture of the former German-based midfielder Daylon Claasen.

“We get telephone calls from agents all the time,” Ferreira told the media.

“Have I been approached about Modise, yes, I have been approached by agents for 200 or 300 different players. Teko Modise is a fantastic player, but do we need a player like Teko Modise at Wits? I think our midfield is one of the strongest in the country at the moment, so would it make sense to sign Teko Modise? I think the answer is clearly not,” Ferreira concluded.
