Consistency key to Nasarawa United's top three hopes, says Abbulbasit

Nasarawa United's Abdulbasit Shittu believes consistency will be key to his team's hopes of clinching one of the three continental spots in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season.

The Lafia outfit are placed fourth in the table, having won nine of their 23 matches this season.

"I am always optimistic about a challenge like this and I believe we would be up there," Abdulbasit told Goal.

"But we need to take it step by step and not put ourselves under undue pressure. We have to be relaxed and let our game speak us.

"The team is confident and has done what it has done with belief in their ability. 64 points should be enough for us to play continental football next season. We will need to improve our total from last year by more than 50%.

"It is possible to finish in top three, but to discuss it now, it is an objective that is still far away. The team must have consistency throughout the season. I believe in the boys."

Nasarawa United were 2-0 winners over Kastina United in midweek.
