United's first game of pre-season came against LA Galaxy, with Mourinho handing a debut to Lukaku as the Red Devils cruised to a 5-2 victory . Their next game saw them travel to Utah, where Lukaku scored his first goal in a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake .

Following those warm-up games, the Red Devils turned their attention to the International Champions Cup. The three matches United play in that competition are marked with an asterisk (*) in the fixture list above.

Those games have seen Mourinho's men endure even more travel in a short space of time. From Salt Lake City, United took a three-hour flight down to Houston, Texas, where they played rivals Manchester City, with Lukaku scoring again in a 2-0 victory .

A four-hour trip back to California - Santa Clara, near San Francisco, this time - to face Real Madrid followed and United defeated the Champions League holders on penalties thanks to some David de Gea brilliance .

The Red Devils completed their ICC commitments with a 1-0 defeat against Barcelona in Washington D.C., where Neymar was the difference between the sides.

Man Utd then made light work of Valerenga in Oslo, Norway, with Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay getting on the scoresheet in the 3-0 win.

Mourinho's side completed their pre-season schedule in Ireland with a 2-1 victory over Serie A side Sampdoria at the Aviva Stadium. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata got on the scoresheet as Matic made his debut.

United will get the chance to sharpen up in a more competitive environment before the Premier League begins through their participation in the UEFA Super Cup, which they qualified for by virtue of winning the Europa League.

They will play last season's Champions League winners Real Madrid and the match will take place in Macedonia on August 8.

That will mean more of the travelling United have become used to of late; Philip II Arena in Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, is nearly six hours away from Manchester by plane.

August 8 is a Tuesday, meaning United will have to fly back overnight and rest up on Wednesday before returning to their preparations for the Premier League.

Their first league match of the season is scheduled for Sunday, August 13 against West Ham. It is the final match of the opening weekend, giving United some extra time to recover after the Super Cup and also allowing the game to be televised.
