Juventus step up bid to sign Sampdoria striker Schick

Juventus have stepped up their bid to sign Patrik Schick in an effort to fend off competition from Serie A rivals Inter and Roma for the Sampdoria striker.

The Czech Republic international only arrived in Genoa last summer but the €4 million acquisition from Sparta Prague has enjoyed a sensational debut season in Italy, netting 13 times in 34 appearances in all competitions.

Schick's fine form has attracted the interest of Serie A's finest and Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has been in constant contact with Sampdoria over the past few months as the Suning group that controls the Nerazzurri looks to overhaul the club's playing squad with a summer spending spree.

However, Juve have also been in touch with both Sampdoria and the player's agent, Pavel Paska, and CEO Beppe Marotta and sporting director Fabio Paratici are now hoping to wrap up a deal for Schick in the coming days.

In order to seal the deal as quickly as possible, it is believed that the Italian champions are willing to meet Schick's buy-out clause of €25m but it is not yet known if the Bianconeri would immediately loan the Czech back to Samp for next season, as they did with Atalanta defender Mattia Caldara.

Juve, though, are aware that they will face stiff competition from Inter for Schick's signature. As Marotta told Mediaset Premium last month, "I think everyone likes Schick. He's young, an interesting player."

Indeed, there is also the chance that Roma will enter the race, with new sporting director Monchi keen on making his mark on the Stadio Olimpico this summer.

As it stands, however, Juve have stolen a march on their rivals and are quietly confident of signing another of the most exciting young players in Serie A as they look to consolidate their position as one of the strongest sides in Europe.
